About The Event
We recall the death of Jesus on the cross. The service is called ‘The Liturgy’ and falls into four main parts.
1) A service of Bible Readings, foretelling the Passion and including the reading of the passion account in John’s Gospel. A reflection on the meaning of the cross may follow.
2) The Solemn Prayers – like the normal intercessions at the Eucharist: we pray for the church, the Jewish people, all those in government etc.
3) The veneration of the cross – We gather around the cross and share in a symbolic action of our part in the suffering of Christ
Holy Communion – The blessed sacrament is brought from the Altar of Repose (where it was on Maundy Thursday night) and we receive Holy Communion in bread only. This shows that we share in the death of Jesus; we receive his love and forgiveness through that death. This is a very simple yet deeply moving service about our salvation in Christ.
